Youth Prevention & Education
Self Help Center’s People Against Violence Everywhere (PAVE) program is offered during the school year to more than 3,000 students from Natrona County School District #1 who are flagged as at-risk by teachers, counselors, and parents because they have either experienced violence in the home, or have demonstrated violent behaviors. The program provides support including one-on-one mentorship and support groups.
Self Help Center also hosts the Conservation Outdoor Recreation Education (CORE) program— providing 7 week-long summer camps in which youth assist the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and the Yellowstone National Park service through volunteer projects. During this time, students learn skills such as teamwork, respect for the environment, their peers and themselves, and more. Participants also learn the history of the site they are working at, how to conduct land surveys, and Leave No Trace camping.
