Events

Throughout the year, the Self Help Center participates in and hosts various events. These events create awareness; support those affected by issues like sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking; and raise funds for our mission.

April

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), which aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence, support survivors, and promote prevention efforts. The Self Help Center is a partner of the Wyoming Department of Victim Services. It also regularly partners with multiple community organizations to provide necessary resources, education, and advocacy for those affected by sexual assault. Through collaboration, outreach, and direct services, the goal is to create a more informed community that supports survivors and works toward meaningful change. By raising awareness, offering support, and fostering a culture of prevention, the aim is to empower individuals, promote healing, and drive collective action to end sexual violence.

May

Lip Sync Battle

The Self Help Center's largest annual charity event, the Lip Sync Battle, takes place in May each year. This fundraiser brings together local businesses, community leaders, and supporters for an evening of entertainment, friendly competition, and fundraising. Participants perform lip sync routines to garner support for the cause. The event has become a favorite within the community, drawing increasing participation and donations each year.

All proceeds from the Lip Sync Battle support survivors of domestic violence and their families, providing essential resources such as emergency shelter, counseling, and advocacy services. The Self Help Center’s mission is to support survivors on their journey to safety and recovery, and this event helps sustain those efforts. By attending, sponsoring, or participating in the battle, individuals contribute to programs that assist those in need. The Lip Sync Battle combines fun with a serious purpose, using music and community involvement to support change.

October

Candlelight Vigil

Held on the first Sunday evening in October at the Tate Pumphouse in Casper, the annual Candlelight Vigil honors and remembers those lost to domestic violence. This event serves as a time for reflection, mourning, and hope. Community members and leaders gather to acknowledge the progress made in addressing domestic violence and to reaffirm their commitment to preventing it.

The vigil typically includes a respectful performance in memory of those lost to violence, along with an update from community leaders regarding progress made toward ending violence in our community, highlighting the personal impact of domestic violence and ongoing efforts to address it. A significant moment involves reading the names of those who have died due to domestic violence, ensuring their memories are honored and their stories remembered. The event concludes with the lighting of candles, symbolizing hope and unity in combating domestic violence.

This gathering not only commemorates the victims but also strengthens the community's resolve to support survivors and work towards preventing future incidents.
